Faculty Survey on Academic Integrity at SFU

The faculty survey indicates that instructors are aware of the important role they play both ensuring students understand course-specific expectations concerning academic honesty and pursuing suspected cases of academic dishonesty. However, while most faculty employ safeguards to discourage academic dishonesty, many suspected cases go unreported largely because of insufficient evidence. Of those cases that can be substantiated and are pursued, the majority of instructors have been satisfied or very satisfied with the outcome. Nevertheless, a number of comments point to frustration with the policies and procedures and the need for streamlining the disciplinary process. Instructors also call for more resources for faculty and students, for more consistency in the penalties imposed on students, and for more education of the entire University community concerning issues relating of academic honesty and integrity.
