Karmvir Padda

Karmvir Padda is a master’s student at Simon Fraser University’s School of Criminology. Her research interests focus on disinformation on mainstream media and social media platforms. As a research assistant at the International CyberCrime Research Centre, she has been working on multiple projects targeting fake news (misinformation and disinformation).

Karmvir is currently investigating the 2016 and 2020 U.S. Presidential elections using fake news datasets collected from Twitter and Facebook under the supervision of Dr. Richard Frank. For her MA thesis, Karmvir’s goal is to identify ‘fake news’ and how foreign interference influences U.S. elections. Moreover, she will be examining how ‘fake news’ are spread to micro-targets and influence audiences on social media outlets.
