      Common plantain is a widespread introduced plant that regularly occurs as a weed in lawns as well as along roadsides and elsewhere.

     The leaves of common plantain and ribbed plantain (P. lanceolata, also known as ribwort or English plantain) are used as a poultice and as an antiseptic applied to open wounds or blisters. The plant also is used as rheumatism medicine and to make a tea for stomach trouble.
