Data Collection

The main source of data used for this analysis were 1996 census tracts and were obtained from Rob Fielder's geoprocessing program. Arc catalogue was used to access the tabular digital data and the vector digital data.  The tabular digital data was then exported from the geodatabase as a table and the vector digital data was exported as a shapefile. and convert it into a shapefile.  The vector data was unprojected and so the Geoprocessing Wizard in the ArcInfo-ArcToolbox was used to project the data into UTM 10n (from North American Datum 1983) using meters as the reference units.  Then it was brought into Arc View where the tabular digital data was joined to the attributes table.

The landuse data used were downloaded from the S: drive from the GVRD folder.  This data was already in raster format and did not need to be projected as it was already projected in UTM 10n, with meters as its reference units.
