Methodological and Operational Problems
Accuracy??

The accuracy of the violent offenders database is not very dependable as the police rely on the sex offender for accurate information. While I was in the process of digitizing, I found several duplicates, incomplete information, and many aliases. Further, there are several residences which house many offenders and this was not taken into account. Also, the statistics available contained missing information, for example not always do the male employment records for each census tract sum up to the male population. Lastly, the digitizing process is not very accurate as the maps used to locate addresses were not very accurate, for example, it was very difficult to even see what side of the street the residence was on. I conclude that this is an example of how such information could be used by the local community, if such information were available (as knowledge of the local area would be essential).
