The aim of this project is to analyze possible connections between the distribution of wealth and income factors, respectively, and ethnic groups in the counties of Los Angeles and Orange in California, USA.
The idea for this project aroused after intensive work with the U.S. census data last year. The Los Angeles and Orange counties were chosen because Los Angeles (L.A.) is a big metropolitan area and has certainly the typical problems of a city of that size, furthermore it is of course more interesting to read about a well known place than about a small village somewhere in Kansas. L.A. is also a city of immigrants and of a huge number of different ethnic groups. As equality is one of the major goals of every democracy, this project should discover if there is an equal distribution of prosperity factors among the different ethnic groups and furthermore if the distribution of the groups themselves is more or less equal or if there is a tendency towards segregation.
Probably the results of this project will not have any further indications in practical planning, but theoretically it will show if there is the need for (further) integrational and equality politics within that region. If the conclusion of this work is that the distribution of wealth is very differentiated between the examined ethnic groups the justified demand for administrational activities may arouse.
