The results of my analysis illustrated that there were not many areas within the DNV for densification of housing stock according to these criteria. Obviously, other things will have to be considered for the location of development sites, as sustainable development requires a complete community to be built, not just dense housing blocks of apartments and townhouses. Denser development will have to occur within areas that do not meet all of the above criteria. It was interesting to note that the Boolean multi-criteria evaluation actually resulted in a larger area of potential sites than did the weighted linear combination. I found this odd as I had included more areas for consideration in the weighted linear combination. Not only this, but boundaries were no longer black and white. This could have been due to the fact that my attempt to restrict potential sites to those adjacent to multireidential areas failed witihin the Boolean analysis. All devlopment sites were ultimately included within that analysis.
The two images for comparison
With the WLC it is also apparent that the areas to consider have a range of suitability within them. A further micro-analysis would have to further investigate which groups of points contain the most suitability. While some smaller plots were included within the possible areas on both images, the only really potential sites form a sustainable development initiative wouls be the larger area as commercial development could be included within the development scheme. This would enhance the community feel of the development as discussed in the introduction.
