Wheelchair Accessibility in Vancouver and Berlin Parks

Vancouver’s Greenest City 2020 Action Plan and Berlin’s Urban Development Concept 2030 are strategic development plans for sustainable growth. Both Vancouver and Berlin have stressed the importance of green space within their plan. These plans, and the focus on urban green space in particular, are essential tools in a government’s aim to create a more livable, healthy and sustainable city. However, these plans fail to address the demographics of those who may not be able to readily access green spaces: Mobility Aid Users.

The aim of this study is to measure the accessibility of green spaces by conducting environmental and digital audits in the City of Vancouver and the City of Berlin.

A deep investigation into green spaces of both of these cities using environmental and digital scans will allow us to examine the contrast in history, culture, and geogrpahy between the two cities as well as the strength and weaknesses of each method of assessment.
