GEOG355 NEW Project Outline (Rough)
Finding the best place for my girlfriend to live in the Lower Mainland!
- My criteria:
- Closeness to place of work (At Westminster Highway and Gilbert
Avenue, Richmond)
or closeness to transit locations that can get me to work
fast.
- Less crime (Property crime, crime against women, etc.)
- Dog friendly neighbourhood
- Preferably a house with a backyard. Perhaps a townhouse with
shared backyard.
Maybe a condominium/apartment that allows pets.
- Rent below $1500/month. Preferably below $1100/month.
- Close to greenspace (Park, Recreation, etc.)
- Near grocery/supermarket.
- Near bus-route to UBC could be an asset.
- On stable ground, as far as Earthquake and flood danger is concerned.
I would like to present the findings of this over the web in a colour map of my 'optimal areas' findings.
I would like to finish this project by November 26th, which is when it is due. The approximate timeline could be:
October 11th - October 28th: Finding data and any digitzing
October 29th - November 10th: Inputting data into Arc/View
November 11th - November 20th: Data analysis
November 21st - November 26th: Publishing data and/or results
on the web
Data sources could include the SFU library, the SFU Criminology department library for statistics, perhaps the RCMP or the GVRD for other crime and spatial information, the SIS lab (and my own ArcInfo digitized coverage collection) for base map coverage, magazines and newspapers for other current information on crime trends and analysis.
I could also use GVRD digital othophotographs as the background for
my finished product. The finished map could be a collection of all the
interesting analysis outcomes, printed in colour at the SIS lab. It could
accompany the web site.
