Have you had your break today? This slogan belongs to the #1 fast-food restaurant in the world, namely McDonald's. McDonald's has over 80 restaurant locations in the lower mainland alone, not including any past Langley and Maple Ridge. In this study, I have concentrated on the McDonald's restaurant chain in regards to locations in the lower mainland. Once I have finished this project I intend to approach McDonald's research and marketing department and share my results. Thus, even though I have several analysis of the data, my main audience will hopefully be McDonald's itself.

    This project has several goals regarding McDonald's locations. The first is to determine the area that McDonald's restaurants services, with a catchment of 1 km and also of 2 kms. The second analysis deals with the maximum distance that must be travelled to reach a McDonald's restaurant in the designated study area. The last analysis will be to indicate the spatial correlation of McDonald's restaurants to Subway, Wendy's, and Burger King locations in the Vancouver area.

    I hope that in the end, this study will identify locations where a McDonald's restaurant could be built to better serve it's customers needs, or illustrate that McDonald's has completely covered all possible areas in the lower mainland. This analysis is however subjective and is something I would like to eventually discuss with McDonald's itself. Having a display of 1 km and 2 km catchement areas will make it easy to later discuss possbile locations with McDonald's.
