Alona, blind from birth, wasted and malnourished, died at two
years old. Nearby are the graves of her mother Norma and her little
brother Jose. Norma was 26, Jose two weeks. As we left the cemetery with Epiphanio, a relative, he crouched
down, patted a small mound and said, "Sir, this is my youngest
daughter."
Five year old Jason Cruzado coughed for eight months. His acute
lung infection was treatable but no medical help was available.
Jason slowly suffocated to death. Half of the native children born on Fuga don't live to see their
sixth birthday.
Severely malnourished infants we tried to help one year, were dead the next year. Care to join us? Email your comments or questions and we'll answer you
