Fuga (Latin for escape) is a pristine island located in the northernmost tip of the Philippines. The population - a clan of 2000 desperately poor Ilokanos--is dying from malnutrition and a litany of other factors resulting from oppression. For generations they have lived and farmed on the remote island without electricity, plumbing or health care. Human rights violations have been committed on the island for decades. The 400 native families are also the victims of a perpetual health crisis. Malnutrition is common. Infant mortality is 50 percent!
The isolated islanders urgently need food, medicines, nutrition, nurses, doctors, and a medical clinic. They also need basic health education, reliable transportation and radios to link them with the rest of humanity. Life-giving medicines and professional services are available from Canada and other countries. But there are complications in getting the support onto the island.
However, there is also a WIN-WIN SOLUTION! Want to be part of it? Start by learning how life on Fuga was, how it disintegrated, and what the island could be again. Be part of the Win-Win solution!
