SFU EDUC 804 Research Tools |
|
This page links to each of the tools on the SFU Library
web site, and describes unique features of each tool that will be helpful to
you in research for your assignments.
ERIC
- Database of Educational resources (journal and magazine articles, theses,
curriculum materials) going back to the 1960s.
- Each item has an Abstract, prepared either by the authors or ERIC staff,
enabling you to read more selectively.
- Each item is described using a set of standard descriptors, making it easy
to find a lot of related work once you have located one item that links to
your interests
Google Scholar
- Indexes some conference papers and journals that ERIC does not.
- Enables you to very easily see how often an item has been cited in other
items in Google Scholar's database (this is a gauge of how influential a piece
of writing is), and jump to those items quickly.
Web
of Science
- Offers more complex citation data than Google Scholar (for journals as well
as articles).
- Provides the easiest way to locate reviews of books by a particular author.
(This is useful for the Tradition paper if you are working with an author
who tends to write more books than journal articles.)
