Svein Andresen

Svein was born in Hong Kong in 1954 and is a Norwegian citizen. He graduated from Simon Fraser University with an MA degree in economics, and went on to complete a PhD in economics from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland.
Svein Andresen was Secretary General of the FSB from April 2009 till January 2018. Svein served as Secretary General to the FSB’s predecessor, the Financial Stability Forum (FSF) from its initiation in 1999.
Prior to joining the FSF, Svein held various positions at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). He was Advisor to the General Manager of the BIS from 1997 to 2000. From 1995 to 1997, he led the secretariat to the G10 Central Bank Governors on financial issues. He was Secretary to the Committee on the Global Financial System from 1992 to 1997 and to the Markets Committee from 1995 to 1997. He joined the BIS Monetary and Economic Department in 1989.
Before joining the BIS, Svein was an assistant professor of economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
