Ms. Dunlop is a past and present chair of the BCCU-ESAC and the successful recipient of two Transfer Innovations Projects in 1999 and 2002. Ms. Dunlop has successfully created 5 Simon Fraser University course websites and a course equivalency web page for the Earth Sciences that was hosted on the BCCAT website, but is presently undergoing reformatting.

• Name for Proposed Project and Brief Overview

Project Name: BCCU-ESAC Web Page. This web page will be hosted by the Department of Earth Sciences at Simon Fraser University .

At the 2006 meeting of Articulation Committee Chairs and System Liaison Persons there was a session devoted to sharing ideas on Articulation Committee Best and Worst Practices. Many of the results of this session are mirrored by what we see in our own Articulation Committee meetings. Although we fulfill many of the best Committee Practices, there are many issues that we also identify with in the Worst Practices.

We would like a central website where we can enhance member communication between annual meetings as well as between our Committee and other Committees (specifically Geography). We all enjoy the professional connections and idea sharing that occurs at annual meetings and occasional joint meetings with Geography, but we often find that the time is too short. An active discussion group during the year will improve articulation of courses and focus attention on challenges and issues that may arise during the time between annual meetings. In this way, we will identify major issues that the next meeting should concentrate on in the roundtable discussion as opposed to just reading out institutional reports.

As suggested by Committee members, the web page will include all of the following:

• Terms of reference.

• Articulation Minutes, agendas and an attendance grid by year.

• Information about upcoming Articulation Meetings, travel info, accommodation info, etc.

• Field trip photos.

• Current institutional reports.

• An institutional report format sheet.

• Earth Sciences Transfer Grid.

• Textbook survey.

• Grid showing grading practices across institutions.

• Member contact information for Geography and Earth Sciences Articulation Committees.

• Discussion group.

• Institutional Contact Person and Transfer Credit Contact Person info or link for each institution.

• Links to other Committee web pages.

• Reports that have been done by our Committee.

• Teaching resources and links to BCCAT handbook publications.

• Links to BCCAT, provincial secondary schools offering Earth Sciences courses, National Association of Geology Teachers Pacific Northwest Section, assorted geology links, etc.

• Member public outreach and workshop photos.

• Webmaster contact.

Description of outcomes desired from project

The ultimate goal of this project is to enhance communication between Earth Sciences Committee members between annual meetings, to enhance collegiality between our members and Geography and to streamline future meetings by identifying transfer issues, challenges and concerns well in advance of meeting times.

Description of process to be followed to achieve these outcomes

• Have Department Chair approve TAP Proposal Form.

• Submit Proposal Form to BCCAT.

• Solicit required information from institutions and begin web page.

• Maintain contact by email with BCCAT and Committee members of Earth Sciences and Geography to discuss web page content and progress.

• Provide an interim progress report at the beginning of 2007.

• Provide a demonstration of the web page at the Earth Sciences Articulation meeting in 2007.

Description of Articulation Committee endorsement/approval process of application for project, if appropriate. E.g. attach minutes, or motion.

At the 2006 Earth Sciences Articulation meeting in Kelowna, there was unanimous agreement from Committee members that Ms. Dunlop should apply for a TAP Project grant to develop a Committee website. There were many suggestions for page contents that would enhance communication between Committee members between annual meetings. The minutes of this meeting are not available at this time. They will be forwarded to BCCAT as soon as they are available.

Proposed Budget. Follow attached Budget Guidelines for more complex projects.

There will be no cost associated with publishing the web page on the Internet or site maintenance. One hundred percent of the fee will be paid to Ms. Dunlop for coordination and development of the web page.

Total Cost for coordination and development of web page $1000.00

Anticipated Timelines and Key Steps to be Followed (attach calendar of events).

Date for Interim Report: January 1 2007

Date for Final Report: After May Articulation meeting 2007
