3. Changes: The School of University Arts and Sciences experimented with a revised timetable in an attempt to allow students more flexibility in course scheduling. Course conflicts still occurred for many students, more as a result of very limited sections being offered (often only one) for many courses rather than from the timetable itself. Next year will see a return to the previous timetable.
Programs/Courses
Geology 132 (Physical Geology) in Fall term. The text used remains “Physical Geology” by Plummer, McGeary,…….. Canadian Ed.
Geology 142 (Historical Geology) in Winter term. The text remains “Historical Geology” by Wicander and Monroe.
Staffing: Frank Fowler, M.Sc., 0.5 time position.
Enrolment Trends: Fall term remained the same at 18 students, but Winter term dropped from 13 to 8 students.
Facilities: One classroom with map, photo and sample storage (used by other classes as well) plus an attached dedicated storage area. Samples of rocks, minerals and fossils are provided for student use in labs. No staff assistant, but one student work-study position is available (split with the School of Renewable Resources ). Use of college map collection. Use of college vans for field trips.
Three field trips for Geology 132 to see local rocks, minerals and former mining activities. Three extended field trips (24 total contact hours) for Geology 142 through local rocks from the mid-Proterozoic Purcell Group to the present.
