Economics studies human behaviour in a broad range of contexts, from how individuals and businesses make decisions to large-scale societal challenges such as poverty and unemployment. Studying economics provides you with a framework for thinking systematically about these issues and the world around you.

Consistently ranked among the top economics departments in Canada, SFU’s Department of Economics offers a dynamic teaching and learning environment for curious minds. You will not only develop the quantitative skills to understand and analyze data, you will also learn how to argue logically and effectively communicate your insights.

The Department of Economics has developed a set of Educational Goals to clarify the expected learning outcomes of our courses.

PROGRAM OPTIONS

There are several options and pathways available to you at SFU Economics—all of which will help foster your critical thinking skills, develop your technical repertoire, and broaden your mind on how the world works from an economics perspective.

Our most popular program is the economics major, which will earn you a bachelor of arts (BA) degree after approximately four years of study.

Take your degree one step further. The honours program provides a solid foundation for graduate studies in economics, and prepares you to be competitive in the job market.

We offer a joint major program with business and political science.
