Biography
I am an Instructional Designer in the Learning and Teaching Division of the Centre for Educational Excellence. In my role here, I collaborate with faculty, educational developers, course technicians, technical and multimedia specialists to revise and develop online and blended courses. I try to implement evidence-based strategies into course designs that align with the way people learn so learning experiences are accessible and inclusive.
I have a Bachelor of General Studies degree from Simon Fraser University and a Master of Educational Technology from the University of British Columbia. In addition, I have certificates and work experience in graphic design and web production which have been helpful in my work in supporting, designing and creating online and blended courses. Since 2001, I’ve worked on hundreds of online courses ranging from e-learning, workshops, staff/faculty onboarding, student community sites to accredited academic courses covering a wide range of topics. Over the years I’ve developed fluency in a number of educational technologies allowing me to find creative possible solutions for course design projects.
One thing that motivates and keeps me interested in this field is that it’s always changing. Not only is educational technology continuously updated, the research on learning sciences is growing and approaches to teaching and learning are evolving. By far the most motivating and most valuable for me is learning from the many colleagues and faculty I’ve worked with over the years.
