Biography
My academic journey has traversed paths of learning, teaching, design, and research in the area where culture, learning, and technology intersect. Most recently, I spent eight years in a faculty role in an English for Academic Purposes program at Red River College. Alongside teaching, I served in an instructional design capacity revising courses into a blended format, and also managed an online learning project developing and testing customizable digital literacy training to be made available as an open access offering.
In my role within the Curriculum & Instruction Division, I support teams across CEE with online and blended learning initiatives as courses and programs implement a strategic approach to leverage optimal affordances of both online and face-to-face teaching and learning suitable for the various faculties across SFU.
I was raised on the Prairies and for some time now have lived in Winnipeg, at the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine rivers, in the heart of Treaty 1 territory. The West Coast is in my blood, and ever since spending a dozen years treeplanting all across B.C., I have returned frequently. I hold an MA in Learning & Technology from Royal Roads University (2018) in Victoria, where my research focused on multiple cultures and digital learning technologies in postsecondary education, and a BA in Intercultural Studies with a TESOL Certificate (2002).
Activities
Outside of my passion for education, I am a singer-songwriter and occasional freelance journalist, play a lot of hockey, and spend time outdoors as much as possible.
