Due to the need to give a different role to auditors, observers cannot participate in a course, they can only view/observe course activities. Please note that students can still be added as observers prior to their registration in a course but they can only view/observe course activities. If you want students to participate, you could add them to the course using an external account. You are responsible for removing the observer/external account from the course once they've been added to the course automatically.
