Landbirds make up the majority of breeding bird species in Canada. This diverse group includes songbirds, gamebirds, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, owls and raptors. British Columbia has the greatest landbird diversity of any province but, for the vast majority of species, we do not know whether populations are increasing, stable or declining. Landbird research at CWE focuses on monitoring little known species, investigating the impact of human activities on threatened species, and assessing how habitat attributes impact the vital rates of focal species in vulnerable habitat.
