Rolf Mathewes and Jonathan Moore featured in CBC's the "Nature of Things"
Two Biological Sciences professors, Rolf Mathewes and Jonathan Moore, were featured in the Nature of Things episode called True Survivors, which aired on Feb 24. In this episode, host Sarika Cullis-Suzuki (daughter of famed environmentalist David Suzuki) explores how diverse people and ecosystems cope with extreme change. Dr. Mathewes shared some of his findings from Haida Gwaii on thousands of years of changes to vegetation communities. He uses paleoecology to reconstruct past vegetation and climatic changes since the last ice age on the island. Dr. Moore and Tlingit collaborators met with Sarika up in the Taku River of northern British Columbia to share their studies of the resilience of salmon ecosystems as they change with rapid glacier retreat.
