A swarm of well-camouflaged, oval-shaped sea slugs (or nudibranchs), are nestled amongst their ribbons of cream-coloured eggs. In this microcosm of life in the intertidal, these Barnicle Eating Dorids (Onchidoris bilamellata) are seen alongside predatory Ochre Sea Stars (Pisaster ochraceus) and barnacle prey, as well as red and green seaweed species that are key primary producers in marine ecosystems. I am taking BISC 317 and went to fulfill my bug collection project and came across this beauty: an Argiope trifasciata (banded garden spider) found in an apple orchard. It survived collection since it's not an insect but worthy of appreciation none-the-less.

A European starling feeds its nestlings. This is "Box 8" — the cracking red cedar lid and yellow-green moss on this box is an ode to the nearly twenty years of research conducted at this working dairy farm in Langley, British Columbia as part of ongoing work in Dr. Tony Williams' lab at SFU.

You may think these are just an unusual fungus, but they are actually more closely related to amoebas! The aptly named Chocolate Tube Slime (Stemonitis splendens) is a slime mold, shown here with its characteristic spore-producing, brown fruiting bodies.
