Biological Sciences launches "Sharp Ideas on Teaching & Learning" Annual Seminar
At the departmental seminar of January 27, 2021, Biological Sciences launched a new annual invited speaker series "Sharp Ideas on Teaching & Learning" in honour of Joan Sharp.
Joan has been a champion of teaching here within Biological Sciences, and at SFU, and beyond. One awesome thing she has done is brought in amazing teaching-focussed seminar speakers each year, relevant to our community.
To honour her in this, we decided to formalize the annual invitation of an invited scholar within our seminar series called "Sharp Ideas on Teaching & Learning." The inaugural speaker was Elli J. Theobald, a fantastic pedagogy speaker and ecologist from the University of Washington, who gave an inspiring talk entitled "Mind the gap: Active learning improves equity in STEM classrooms." Close to 80 participants joined via Zoom to hear Dr. Theobald's seminar, and to celebrate the launch of the series.
Congratulations, Joan!
