Three SFU women honored by YWCA

Two members of the current Simon Fraser University community and an alumna have won 1998 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards.

The YWCA presents awards in 10 categories each year. Honored at the award ceremonies were:

Tung is an internationally known expert in international business administration. She was recently elected as a fellow of the Academy of Management, a professional association of about 10,000 academics and managers from around the world. Fewer than 100 of the academy's members have been elected fellows.

Earlier this year, the Secretary General of the United Nations appointed Tung to an eight-member task force charged with revamping human resource management at the international organization.

Cowan has been the driving force behind Canada's largest continuing education program in writing and publishing which offers more than 100 courses annually at SFU. She also co-founded SFU's innovative Canadian centre for studies in publishing which offers Canada's only master's degree in publishing.

Kuttner is nationally known for her work in providing pain management techniques for young patients at B.C. Children's Hospital. She also teaches at UBC and has produced and directed documentaries on pain management.
