Richard G. Harris is a Professor of Economics at Simon Fraser University.     Prior to 1990 he spent most of his professional career at Queen’s University with visiting appointments
at  a number of  universities.  His major area of specialization is
international economics. From 1985 to 1988 he was
a special advisor to the Canadian government on the negotiations leading to the Canada-U.S. free
trade agreement. He has served as consultant to Canadian governments, international
organizations, including the World Bank and O.E.C.D., and corporations in the area of
international economics. In addition to a number of technical articles, he has published
policy-oriented books and articles on Canada-U.S. free trade, international macroeconomics,
economic growth and Canadian public policy. His current research is focused on global economic integration

 and the implications of the global financial crisis for Canadian macroeconomic policy. He is a
former president of the Canadian Economics Association and a Fellow of the Royal Economic
Society of Canada.
