A delegation from Volkswagen Group’s Innovation Management Group is planning to visit Canada in late November for a technology scouting visit. Although they are focusing on Ontario and Quebec and will not be visiting British Columbia in person, they have expressed interest also in learning about the automotive technologies present in this province. VW’s team includes discussion partners at Porsche, Audi and VW’s Data Lab in Munich. The purpose of their visit is to identify innovative technologies that could be used in future vehicle production, with a view to initiating business discussions where there is a mutual interest.
The technologies they are most interested in are as follows:
- Subject #1 - AI and Natural Language Learning (digital concierge, BOTs)
- Subject #2 - Smart Features (networking, smart sensors, digitization, IoT, HMI)
- Subject #3 - Big Data (real-time data collection, analytics, machine learning, optimization/modelling)
- Subject #4 - Health & Well-being (health, autonomous driving, smart sensors)
- Subject #5 - CO2 Reduction (electrification, hydrogen, powertrain costs)
- Subject #6 - Sustainability From Cradle-to-Cradle (life cycle assessment, sustainable materials, emissions reduction, recycling)
- Subject #7 - CO2 Optimization in the Whole Vehicle (aerodynamics, weight reduction)
- Subject #8 - Design-to-New Retail (POS marketing, digital tools, personalization, 3D printing)
- Subject #9 - Design-to-Cost (emerging markets, democratization, cost reduction)
- Subject #10 - Design-to-Share (P2P car sharing, modular interiors, easy to clean/maintain)
- Subject #11 - Connected Safety (V2V, V2X, driver assistance, machine learning)
Given the wide range of relevant research carried out at SFU, we plan to compile a document that summarizes potential areas for collaboration. We would appreciate if those with related research activities you could fill out the attached template and return it to it before next Friday, October 27, to Neil Branda (nbranda@sfu.ca) or Norbert Haunerland (haunerla@sfu.ca) who will coordinate the submission.
