Please note the following important points related to the submission of applications:

SFU Internal Deadline + receipt of fully signed SFU signature sheet - Tuesday October 25, 2016
Agency Deadline - Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 5:00PM PST
Other deadlines:
· Research Tools and Instruments (RTI): Agency Deadline - Monday October 3, 2016, 5:00 p.m. (PST) Note: The initial deadline for this is October 1, 2016. However, this date falls on a Saturday therefore the deadline falls to the next business day which is Monday October 3, 2016.
Instructions
Researchers must follow NSERC’s instructions for completing an application. Information that does not conform to these instructions will not be used for peer review and the application may be rejected.
NSERC will not accept applications after the deadline.
*NEW* DND/NSERC Discovery Grant Supplements
NSERC has launched a new initiative in partnership with the Department of National Defence (DND) through their agency Defence Research and Development Canada. The partnership will provide up to 20 research supplements to support unclassified university-based research dedicated to the development of non-weapon specific technologies with dual-use applications in defence and security target areas.
· To be considered for the DND/NSERC Supplement, applicants must complete the new Supplements/Joint Initiatives section of the Discovery Grant application through the Research Portal.

Eligibility of Subject Matter
To help applicants identify the appropriate agency when applying for funding, consult the guidelines for Selecting the Appropriate Federal Granting Agency . For additional information and specific examples relating to subject matter eligibility, refer to the Addendum to the guidelines for the eligibility of applications related to health document. Applications that are outside of NSERC’s mandate will be rejected. Decisions on eligibility of subject matter may come at any time during the review cycle.
Gender Equality in Science and Engineering
NSERC encourages applicants to provide information on their gender on a voluntary basis in the identification section of the CCV. The information is used for statistical purposes and to help build evidence for policy improvements, in accordance with the NSERC – Policy Statement on Gender Equality in Science and Engineering . It is not seen or used in the NSERC peer review process.
