Another workaround is to check the "Use these default alerts on only this computer" option, which seemed to work for us.

So far the workaround of setting the default reminder time has worked for us pretty consistently. Has it not for you?

Just a heads up in case you have people on your campus starting to upgrade to Mountain Lion.  There is a pretty bad problem with CalDAV/iCal.  The workarounds that we have read about and tried have not worked for us.

If anyone on the list has found a workaround that actually works, I'd love to hear it.
