I n X t h e X C o l d X D i s t a n c e

Lyrics Ð Marc Diamond

The title of this song arose from a line in Jimmy HendrixÕs version of ÒAll Along the WatchtowerÓ.
(Bob Dylan didnÕt use the adjective in the original recording). This was my last collaboration with Marc Diamond.
The lyrics are characteristic of his keen and satiric observations of the human condition.

Premiered at Song Room 2, June 18, 2005, Tom Cone's residence, Vancouver.
Performed by composer playing 11 string fretless guitar. Recording of concert at
Vancouver East Cultural Centre May 29, 2006 available here. |W|

I n X t h e X C o l d X D i s t a n c e

On the last day of the world
I was trying to meet this girl
On the last day of the world
On the last day of the world

Saw her looking at the sky
Yeah it made me want to try
On the last day of the world
On the last day of the world

Main Street is pain street
When you're looking for the clues
Yeah your face is on the sidewalk
And you're dying to read the news

Still sheÕs staring at the sky
And youÕve got to wonder why
On the last day of the world
On the last day of the world

Never mind the war, she said
Take me to a store, she said
I want new shoes, a big soft bed
Forget about the war she said

Nano tech nano love
Do it to me Joe
Don't care about your feelings
Don't even want to know

Now sheÕs screaming at the sky
Yeah it makes you want to die
On the last day of the world
On the last day of the world

So weÕll go no more a-roving
By the light of the moon
Out of gas out of luck
Out of love out of room

And sheÕs running towards the sky
And she didnÕt say goodbye
On the last day of the world
Yeah the last day of the world

On the last day of the world
I was trying to meet this girl
On the last day of the world
On the last day of the world
