Western Division of the Canadian Association of Geographers
2011 Annual Meeting
March 10-12, 2011
Simon Fraser University
Burnaby, BC
The Department of Geography at Simon Fraser University (SFU) is delighted to serve as host for the WDCAG 2011 conference, which is a regional meeting of the Canadian Association of Geographers . This conference serves as an annual gathering place for geographers and interested others to share recent advancements in the discipline, and we expect that the 2011 event will be no different. We welcome geographers and those interested in geography to join us atop Burnaby Mountain for what promises to be an interesting, educational, and exciting event.
The theme of the WDCAG 2011 conference is Habitat for Diversity. It was proposed by an undergraduate student in the Department of Geography at SFU, and was adopted as the theme as it is thought to characterize many contemporary aspects of the discipline. Habitats are places that are inhabited by particular species, while diversity has numerous interpretations ranging from biodiversity (or species richness) to an expression of variety. The conference theme, Habitat for Diversity, has many interpretations, one of which is that we hope the WDCAG 2011 itself becomes a habitat or environment that promotes the sharing of diverse geographic ideas. We encourage presenters from across the discipline to engage with the theme in their talks and posters.
We look forward to hosting you in March, 2011.
