Reporting Structure Changes: OAP moving to Indigenous Council Office from Provost and VPA

I hope you are all well as we begin our transition from winter to spring. As you all know, SFU has embraced the critical call to Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous people. I want to let you know that the Office for Aboriginal Peoples (OAP) will move from the Provost and VPA team to the Indigenous Council Office effective April 1, 2024, and will work directly with me on building capacity and safe and welcoming spaces in Truth and Reconciliation priority areas.

For many years, the Office for Aboriginal Peoples has been supporting and holding up Truth and Reconciliation work across the university. I look forward to welcoming Ron Johnston, Director of OAP, and Gary George, Officer for Community Relations, as well as a senior administrative assistant position, to our team. Together as an SFU family, we will continue their good work in collaboration with existing partners across SFU, including advancing an Indigenous governance structure and the development and implementation of an Indigenous Strategic Plan.
