REEL 120 COMMENTARY

1. Distant calls, give sense of large space.

1'55" raven approaching.

2'30" closer.

2'45" different call.

3'10" raven flies off.

2. Testing for echoes and reverberation on lake. The reverb on this lake moved about from point to point. However, the print-through on the tape makes it difficult to hear.

3. Raven is closer, beautiful calls.

1'10" first call.

1'35" second call.

1'45" third call,

2'00" slight wind surge, tree creaking.

2'10" fourth call.

2'20" fifth call, closer.

2'45" sixth call, distant.

5'05" final call.

4. Wind starts on the mountain a mile or so away bounding the lake and sweeps down to the lakeside. Regularly creaking tree in distance.

4'45" peak of small wind surge., squirrel.

5'30" larger swell,

5'40" local rustling.

5. Opens in a large swell of wind.

2'00" first wave subsides.

3'15" squirrel, smaller surge.

3'40" another swell begins.

4'00" local rustling, subsiding, then again.

8'30" squirrel, tree creak, leaf flutter.

9'40" short lull.

6. From this take on the microphones are placed in the trees

(see data sheet for the previous placement).

7. More wind, closer up.

5'15" more complex patterns at high peaks.

6'45" lull.

7'30" new twist on tree-creak-sonority.

Ambient levels for takes 1-3: 28 dBA

4-7: 30-35 dBA (gusts to 50 dBA).
