REEL 104 COMMENTARY

1. The last, most bizarre sequence: "cross talk on all channels", background personalities emerge, pass quickly away, disintegration. The group from last reel encounter a group of Italian tourists. Confessor (from last reel) attempts interviewing, Dave Patterson finally gets to talk about the "Battle of the Coral Sea" and his heroic exploits.

7'00" Dave recites, confessor wants alcoholic centre closed down, everybody rambles on and on.

2. 0'30" "extra, extra "

2'10" confessor gets told to take off. "Moral judgment of insanity according to street criteria" (from recordist's notes).

3. Discussion about recordings.

4. The dispersal (4'00") yields peace, traffic never seems so calm, graceful vehicles glide by like ghosts after all the verbal violence and comedy of the previous reels. Dave Patterson talks more about the "Battle of the Coral Sea" at beginning.

3'25" introduction. Dave gets himself mixed up with Cliff Robertson, film star of the "Battle of the Coral Sea".

4'00" dispersal, peace and quiet, recordist is walking out on Powell Street.

6'10" standing by psychotically ticking phone booth.

*7'00" siren sails by, loud, graceful (?).

9'40" "What's that?"

10'50" car horn, calm, then clack of trolley wires, another car horn.

11'20" train whistle.

11'55" train whistle.

12'30" car horn.
