Considerations for Y2K and Beyond : Definition – What Is the Y2K Problem?
Using
dates that indicate only the last two digits of the year can create problems
because it may not be certain which century the two-digit years are referring
to. For example, the date 1/21/00 may represent January 21, 1900, or January
21, 2000. Computer systems risk generating errors if they fail to distinguish
which century such dates refer to.
