Notes on Shanghai 5

The following passage is about the best location where you can take a joyful view of the Shanghai trolley-buses.

If you have a chance to visit China, don't forget to go to Shanghai, where its trolley-bus fleet is the best in Asia. And if you have a chance to visit Shanghai, don't forget to go to the intersection of North Sichuan Road (named after Si'chuan Province) and Hai'ning Road (named after the city of Haining in Zhejiang Province) .
At this intersection, there are 4 pairs of straight through wires crossing with each other, and two pairs of turning wires permitting trolleys to turn from north to east, and west to south; as many as six ETB routes meet there; they are routes 6, 13, 14, 17, 21, and 25. Actually, some 2 years ago, not so many trolleybus routes met there, but because that the North Si'chuan Road is a major shopping zone of Hong'kou District, and the 3rd most bustling shopping street in Shanghai, routes 6 and 25 were extended to here so that people who live in the residential communities of Hong'kou and Yang'pu Districts at the north-eastern part of the city can go shopping along the North Si'chuan Road with relative ease by taking those trolleys.
There's also a round pedestrian overpass at this intersection. You can take a full view of trolley-buses hustling and bustling down the streets on the pedestrian overpass. And you may also find some different types of trolley-buses there, such as air-conditioned trolleys, trolleys with neon advertisement, and various shapes of trolleys. Since the interval between two trolley-buses on one particular route is only two or three minutes in the rush hour, you can even find that the roads below are always teemed with trolleys.
However, there is still a problem left behind: too many trolleys share just one set of overhead wires in one particular direction leads to the frequent long queue of trolleys on those routes. If there is a dewirement, many trolleys have to wait patiently, and this may result in a traffic jam.
Anyway, it's good location to pay a visit for a trolley-bus fan, and you'll surely find a lot of pleasure there.
