The city of Guangzhou is the provincial capital of Guang'dong (Canton) province in south China, the city is located approximately 150 km northwest of Hong Kong.
Starting today, September 26, 2000, Guangzhou's
trolley-bus route 106 begins to operate eastward beyond its original
terminal at Dong'shan (East Hill) Station, to Jin'cheng'hua'yuan(Silk
Garden Estate) at Mei'hua (plum) Road, and thus brings clean and
quiet electric transit service for the first time beyond the east
end of all trolley-bus routes in Guang'zhou at Dong'shan, and
into the Tian'ho District which until today, remained a barren
land of any trolley-bus operation.
The extension of route 106 brings its entire length from 7.7 km
to 9.8 km, and is part of the ambitious "Green Mountain,
Clear Water, Blue Sky" project to revitalize the city's trolley-bus
system to become the dominant mode of public transportation in
downtown Guangzhou, by the end of this year, we shall expect to
see more exciting events unfolding, including possible opening
of brand new trolley-bus routes.
