"This picture shows Nottingham 578, the last 7' 6" wide 6-wheel trolleybus in the city, on an enthusiast's tour. The location was the old southbound route 43 stand in Nottingham's Old Market Square: the 43 had been converted to motorbus operation some 6 months before but the city centre wiring was still intact and live. The yellow sign below the red one on the pole was the new-style motorbus stop sign - painted rather than the enamelled green ones that served as trolleybus stop signs. The old bus stop signs were red. That day, we covered all the remaining wiring and started a collection to buy the bus we were on, which is now restored at Sandtoft." Photo and text by Brian Dominic.
