The 'roar of the four.' Taken in the late '30s, Market Street was busy and very interesting. This situation lasted until about 1947, when streetcar lines were being diseaselized and some cases later electrified. Today there are four tracks of trolleybus overhead, but it just doesn't come to the 'roar of the four' days. Photographer unknown.

Marmon-Herrington 660 is passing PCC 1019 on 17th St. at Sanchez St. West bound trolleys on the 33 and on maybe the 8 were diverted via 17th St. from MIssion St. and Valencia St. to Diamond St., where the route went south to 18th St. and continuing via its normal route. This rerouting occurred during the construction of the Metro tunnel near tunnel entrance. 660 was signed as #8 but it could have been a misnumbering. The PCCs were also rerouted via 17th. This is uncertain. Today 17th St. still sees non-revenue carhouse vintage streetcars for route F. Photographer uncertain. October 1973. From the collection of Cameron Beach.
