Countdown to 2030: creating a sustainable future
This fall, the SFU Sustainability and Climate office is partnering with university collaborators to highlight sustainability, climate action and planetary health events at the university.
Countdown to 2030: creating a sustainable future, underscores the critical importance of the years leading up to 2030. The SFU community can learn about the diverse range of sustainability and climate activities across our three campuses, and engage in initiatives advancing an inclusive and sustainable future.
The year 2030 marks a crucial deadline for countries and organizations worldwide to implement sustainability and climate strategies and achieve climate goals, including those outlined by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. On the path to 2030, SFU is committed to taking meaningful action to regenerate our planet's ecosystems.
“Each of us has a valuable and critical role to play in advancing planetary solutions to address urgent issues such as climate change,” says Candace Ratelle, executive director of SFU Sustainability and Climate Office. “The campaign showcases the breadth and depth of activities underway at SFU and the collaborative university-wide effort to deepen our understanding, advance innovations, foster connections and inspire action. If you have ever wondered what you can do to contribute or what SFU is doing to make positive difference, consider attending one or more of these excellent events.”
With a variety of events hosted by a diverse group of faculties, departments and units across campus, the campaign will run from September to December 2024. The campaign is a pilot project and may be extended to showcase the many opportunities to learn, share, and collaborate.
