Leadership changes in finance
Meet our new AVP Finance: Karamjeet Heer
After more than 10 years at SFU as the Associate Vice President of Finance within the Vice-President Finance and Administration portfolio, Alison Blair has recently announced that she will be starting an exciting new chapter in her life as she retires at the end of January 2023.
Alison will hand over the reins to Karamjeet Heer, CPA, CA, who we are thrilled to welcome to SFU as the new Associate Vice President (AVP) of Finance, effective November 1, 2022.
As a seasoned financial leader, Karamjeet is passionate about enhancing business processes, developing meaningful financial reporting and cultivating a strong people culture. Karamjeet joins us from UBC, where she has served as the Comptroller since July 2019 and the Interim Vice President of Finance since June 2022. She brings over 20 years of experience in the public practice and public sector, having served in various organizations across the manufacturing, services, retail, health care, post-secondary, transportation and agriculture fields. Karamjeet’s expertise lies in accounting standards, internal controls, financial reporting, tax and project management.
"I am excited to welcome Karamjeet to our leadership team," said Martin Pochurko. "She's an insightful and strategic leader and brings a wealth of deep and diverse financial experience to this position. I'm delighted she will join us at Simon Fraser University and look forward to working with her."
Please join us in wishing Alison all the best for her future and welcoming our new AVP of Finance – Karamjeet Heer.
