SFU names Tom Nault university registrar and executive director, student enrollment
An experienced post-secondary educator and administrator has been named SFU’s new registrar and executive director of student enrollment.
Tom Nault, currently the university registrar and secretary to senate at Memorial University in Newfoundland and Labrador, begins his SFU appointment on July 5, 2021.
“Tom has spent his career in post-secondary education developing a breadth and depth of leadership experience across several important areas, such as strategic enrollment management, academic governance, student systems, and policy, including initiatives to advance Indigenization and reconciliation,” says Rummana Khan Hemani, SFU’s vice-provost and associate vice-present, students and international.
Nault’s appointment follows extensive community consultation and a national search.
Prior to Memorial University, he served as registrar at Centennial College in Toronto and faculty registrar in the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Engineering at the University of Toronto.
Nault has a proven track record of collaborating with stakeholders to meet institutional goals. He played a leading role in the development of Memorial’s undergraduate enrollment plan and launched technology projects to support student success. He is an active participant and speaker at registrarial associations, nationally and internationally.
Nault and his partner will say goodbye to Newfoundland and Labrador in mid-May before beginning a cross-country road trip to B.C.
“We wish him a safe journey, and look forward to welcoming him to SFU in July,” says Hemani.
“I also want to take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation to Kathryn Verkerk, who stepped up to fill the registrar’s role on an acting basis while the search was underway. We are grateful for her leadership, hard work and dedication.”
