APSA Basic Agreement Ratified

September 12, 2024

SFU and the Administrative and Professional Staff Association (APSA) have concluded renegotiation of an updated Basic Agreement, a constitutional document that governs the relationship between the two parties.

The updated Basic Agreement was approved by the SFU Board of Governors and ratified by APSA members in a recent vote.

The updates include changes such as increasing the cap for the number of excluded (APEX) employees allowed and new protocols for the Joint University Association Committee (J.U.A.C.).

The Basic Agreement expires on December 31, 2025, though it will be automatically renewed annually unless either party gives written notice of its intention to renegotiate at least 6 months in advance.

As a next step, SFU and APSA will begin work to re-launch J.U.A.C., which serves as a mechanism to collaborate on and resolve matters of mutual concern, such as policy changes per section 9.1 of the Basic Agreement.
