Dr. Paul McFetridge (1954-2014)

The entire department is saddened by the loss of Dr. Paul McFetridge, who passed away at his home on March 14, 2014. Paul was an integral part of the department for over three decades, first as a student, and then as a faculty member since 1990. His doctoral dissertation was A theoretical phonology of Old English. Paul was a talented computational linguist and served the department as chair for two separate terms. More recently he was an Associate Dean in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (2007-2014).

His work was greatly valued by all of us, and he will be deeply missed by colleagues, staff and students alike.

The read selections from Paul's research on the Summit Research Repository website, see this link.

Donations to the Paul McFetridge memorial fund can be made through this secure link, or by sending a cheque to the department made out to Simon Fraser University (with the notation ‘Paul McFetridge Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship in Linguistics’ in the memo field).
