Biography: Michael F. Brown is the President of the School for Advanced Research in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His research interests include religion and ritual, the cross-cultural study of healing, native peoples of Amazonia, and the ethical and practical dilemmas of heritage protection. He books include Tsewa's Gift: Magic and Meaning in an Amazonian Society (1986), War of Shadows: The Struggle for Utopia in the Peruvian Amazon (1991, co-authored with Eduardo Fern·ndez), The Channeling Zone: American Spirituality in an Anxious Age (1997), and Who Owns Native Culture? (2003). He is currently working on a study of groups exploring radical social alternatives in the face of global climate change. His latest book, Upriver: The Turbulent Life and Times of an Amazonian People (2014), is published by Harvard University Press.
