Nooria Sarhadi recently graduated with a double major in International Studies and Political Science. Her profound interest in global issues, cultural diversity, and the complexities of international relations led her to choose the International Studies program at SFU. Reflecting on her academic journey, Sarhadi shared, “This program not only opened up a wide array of career opportunities but also allowed me to deepen my passion for social justice through every class.”

Throughout her studies, Sarhadi was inspired and supported by several wonderful faculty members. “I had the privilege of learning from exceptional professors like Jason Stearns, Elizabeth Cooper, and Amyn Sajoo,” she recalls. “They not only deepened my passion for my majors but also acted as mentors, supporting me in various ways.” She credits these dedicated educators with enriching her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (BAIS) experience, emphasizing that their enthusiasm and willingness to share their knowledge and lived experiences were invaluable.

Sarhadi’s journey at SFU exemplifies the diversity and strength of the School for International Studies. Her advice to new undergraduate students is heartfelt: “My advice to new students is to get involved! Whether it's with the International Studies Student Association or other clubs. Participation in these groups will allow you to work with fellow students who share your passion and can help you explore the roles you want to pursue in your career.”

As Nooria embarks on the next chapter of her life, her story stands as an example of the enriching and supportive environment at SFU's School for International Studies, where students are empowered to pursue their passions and make a meaningful impact on the world.
