"Salmonvision" AI helps ensure health of wild salmon

January 23, 2024

Tracking wild salmon returns in real-time could help fisheries be more sustainable, but it hasn’t been possible—until now.

Computing science professor Jiangchuan Liu and biological sciences/resource & environmental management professor Jonathan Moore have teamed up with the Pacific Salmon Foundation, Wild Salmon Centre and First Nations fisheries to develop Salmonvision, an AI technology that detects and tracks salmon in the wild.

The professors were recently featured in SFU's Scholarly Impact of the Week , an initiative that showcases scholarly milestones and research impacts from across the SFU research community.
