Keynote Speaker: Monique Bégin
- "Meeting Women's Needs: Imaginative Government & Imaginative Public Policy"
- The focus of her discussion will be how government can design public policy to better meet women's economic security needs. It will deal more specifically with public policy in heath care and labour.
Monique Bégin was the first woman from Quebec to be elected to the House of Commons in October 1972. She was re-elected in 1974, 1979, 1980. She served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (1975), as Minister of National Revenue (1976) and as Minister of National Health and Welfare (1977 to 1984) before leaving politics in September 1984. A university professor since, Ms. Bégin is currently Visiting Professor of Health Administration in the School of Management, University of Ottawa, and Professor Emeritus, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa. She is also serving as a Commissioner on the World Health Organization Independent Commission on Social Determinants of Health. |
