The Unit

 

This unit is designed to address the following prescribed learning outcomes for the BC Social Studies 11 curriculum:


Skills and Processes:
  • Compare a range of points of view on an issue
  • Defend a position on an issue, situation or topic
  • Access a range of information sources on selected topics, including sources from a range of media types, representing a range of perspectives, that qualify as primary

Society and Identity:
  • Identify key milestones in the development of the welfare state
  • Give examples of Canada's treatment of minorities

 

The Question

The unit invites students to investigate the question, "Has Canada become a more compassionate country over the past 100 years?" Students will work in small groups to pursue this question using an array of documentary evidence, which has been collected and digitized by our team. These sources will be available in our in our Knowledge Forum online workspace.
