TUNNEL
Not only did the Inka construct a vast network of highways linking the various states in the Inka Empire, but they also constructed tunnels passing through walls of solid rock. The carved steps are clearly visible in this photograph, and the smooth wear on the rocks is evidence of hundreds of years of human passage along the ancient roadway.
